Valparaiso Coast

Valparaiso, Chile

Valparaiso and the surrounding coast is one of Chile's major ports and resort areas. I spent a day driving around Valparaiso and up the coast, seeing the sights and enjoying the sun and sea. The coast is fairly rocky along this stretch of shore, so naturally I was able to enjoy looking at the rocks and erosion processes typical of ocean coasts. Of course, being a resort area there are also nice sandy beaches.

As mentioned before, Valparaiso is one of Chile's most important ports. Much of the fruit and wine produced in the central valley of Chile are exported through this port to countries around the Pacific rim, including the United States. In the U.S. winter, you will often see commercials on TV promoting Chilean fruit. Chances are it came through this port.
